brightening up the day [144/365]

The forsythia is in bloom. They don’t last long, but the sure can brighten up a dull day, while they’re here. Strangely enough, their little, yellow flowers seem to shine more brightly on really overcast days.

  1. Oh, thank you Rebekah; for such a glorious photo! It was such a nasty winter here, I had only a handful of blossom on mine): but I must thank you for making me curious about the origins of forsythia…
Apparently they are related and originate in China. Golden Rain is a weeping shrub – one of the parents of our “vase shaped” Forsythia intermedia – and is considered very important in Chinese medicine

                1. This is the first verse, with the emphasis on rough:

                  Kissing wind

                  He came like a wind
What does a wind care about what’s forbidden?!
                  He kissed your cheek
He kissed all the blood to your skin
Right there, it should have ceased
You belonged to another … just borrowed
a night in the time of lilacs
and the month of the golden rain.

                    1. Yes, it’s about adultery. It was a bit controversial when it was released, that’s long time ago. Now, nobody would raise an eyebrow. At least not in Sweden, I don’t know about here … perhaps they’re more sensitive here.

  2. Your Forsythia photos always make me smile…
And they remind me of my friend Audrey who loved Forsythia flower….we had a bush outside of our apartments on the West Hill & would enjoy them yearly.
    Lovely photograph as usual Rebby!
