cat post [83/365]

So far, during my “daily post-project”, there haven’t been many posts about McDuff. There’s a reason for that; I’m saving him for those days when my mind is blank. I did have a few ideas for today’s post, but it seemed too complicated and involved some ‘reading-up’ on the subject. Perhaps another time.

mcduff_sleepLately, our little darlin’ has taken to going to bed with us … meaning, actually sleeping in the bed. That phenomenon comes and goes in cycles, and of course, I’ve no idea what triggers it. I only know it’s wonderful to have the purring bundle with me in bed. His warmth spreads throughout the covers too, which is nice in the wintertime.

IMG_2522-minYesterday, my husband, Gerry, was cooking a chicken in the oven. As he sat down to peel the onions … in a split second, McDuff was up on the table. He can hear the rustling sound from miles away, apparently, and he loves the paper-ish peel from yellow onions! I give him a few, very small, pieces of it, which he chews up with great enjoyment.

If you start to ask yourself questions like “Why is the cat doing this or that?” … then you get really mixed up in the head 🙂 Our little guy has quite a few oddities, apart from onions, but it all adds to his sweet personality and we love him dearly.

  1. I love the picture of McDuff. They are so damn adorable!!!

I can relate to a cat appearing out of nowhere in a nanosecond. With Theo, it is the sound of me making the bed. Every morning, if Theo is in the house, as soon as I start to move around the blankets, he is instantly there. He thinks it’s a game. I’ve learned how to strip and make a bed with the distraction of a 20lb cat 🙂

    1. Ha ha! They’re so funny … McDuff has this uncanny feeling for when I’m just making the bed, or when it’s time for fresh linen. He doesn’t care about the daily ritual … only when it’s fresh. He hangs around all the time, while I fight with the duvet cover, and as soon as I’m finished; he’s up there 🙂

Hi Rebby: Sherri-Ellen here…I remember when Mingflower would play with the crinkly onion skins. I stopped questioning why cats do anything about 30 years ago….they just ARE who they are right? 😉

    1. Hi there, Dharth Henry and Sherri-Ellen! Yeah, it’s best to stop questioning … otherwise you go nuts. Like “WHY did he just stand up, all of a sudden, and jump down, when he looked so comfortable?” You’ll never know … there’s no way of getting inside there cute little heads 🙂

          1. The residues in the food. Purina is full of it. I can’t remember what it was exactly but some of those trace minerals clog up the urinary tract in cats. I’d have to look it up. Don’t remember.

  3. Never question the cat 🙂 McDuff is a darling. My cat never showed any desire to sleep in the bed, though a few times when I was away on business for five days or so, she would jump on it and sleep there. I know because my cat sitter reported so and of course, because cat hair appeared in the bed.

    1. My first two, both liked to lie on my chest for a while. Not a long while, thankfully, because it got both heavy and warm.

Curious that she did it, only when you were away … try and figure that one out! 🙂

      1. Awe 🙂 I was imagining, before I had a home cat, that she would sleep on my lap when I’m working, but somehow she keeps her distance. I’m undecided whether she went for my bed when I was out because she missed me and want to be where I normally spend so much time or because she missed me and wanted to be naughty.

        1. I used to imagine stuff like that too … like you see in Whiskas commercials ‘n stuff. But they all have their little personalities 🙂 I [want to] think it’s because they miss us. My Murphy used to sleep on my chair by the computer when I was away at work.

          1. Awe 🙂 It’s clear that Murphy was missing you so much when he slept on your chair! Actually having a cat is so different from what I imagined it would be, but it was the best decision ever and I still regularly congratulate myself on the idea of acquiring a house cat 🙂

            1. Me too! I wasn’t a cat person at all, I didn’t even trust them. Visited with a friend, who had a Persian. That weekend I got to see how nice it could actually be, and the following Monday I “signed up” for Hadassah. That was 1986. One of the best things I’ve done.

              1. Same here! I didn’t think anything special about cats, but then I moved in a house which had a resident garden cat – and her elegance and independence got me. So it’s been cats since then.

  5. Handsome McDuff! lol it is weird how they react on some sounds! I am still puzzled how my dog Rickie could hear when I took out the cheese from the fridge. I mean it was in plastic and we had several things in plastic in the fridge but somehow he just KNEW when we took out the cheese LOL
