Birthday Boy

11 years since our little lad was born! Today he’ll get tuna! Not just any, canned tuna — there’s a particular type he loves, that comes in pouches. «And how do you know he loves that one?!», you ask … Well, our ritual in the morning is quite funny to watch. Everything happens in a certain order in the kitchen … before I start preparing for me own breakfast, I bring him his. I just can’t have those eyes piercing me, as he sits there, waiting patiently. When I move into the pantry to get a can, he’s looking even RipReady-TunaPcs-YF-85g-eng+frmore carefully and IF I grab one of those tuna pouches, I get a whole different reaction! He sees the difference, so then he comes over, circling around my feet … stretching up towards the counter … purring, meowing … Clover Leaf should be proud 🙂

In spite of it being his birthday, he’ll have a tough day in front of him. There’s bad weather moving in, we’re under a rainfall warning for this evening, and they’ve even talked about snow for tomorrow. Any change in air pressure renders him very ‘low’ — both in his mind, and physically … ‘low to the floor’. You just see a grey piece of fur, slithering away into one of his ‘safe places’. He’s our whiskered barometer!

In honour of the birthday boy, I’ll put in a few of my favourite photos of him. You may have seen these before, but still … he’s just such a beautiful boy 🙂

In parenthesis, I also want to say I was once again reminded of how I love the Web, while typing up this post: I’d forgotten the word ‘slither’. It was on the very tip of my tongue, but wouldn’t come out. My husband and human dictionary is still asleep, so I typed in, in Google «what’s snakes movement called?» and in a split second I had it! LOL

      1. Oh yes, Any part of Michigan can get a little snow or two foot of it from lake effect snows. And it can be very localized too, one county can get blasted, the county next to it can get none or much less. Selective snow storms…

  1. That is so funny about the word. I do that all the time and think often how the things you wanted were not always in a dictionary. Happy Birthday McDuff! He is such a beautiful guy. Our stray does that with the stretching up and kneading the glass if she recognizes something she likes. Such smart little critters.

    1. Yeah, it’s so good that you can ‘ask’ like that, because I couldn’t come up with the word in Swedish even LOL … could just see a snake moving across the sand. It’s amazing how they do that!

Oh yeah, they’re smart in their own way … I think he knows now he’ll have shrimp for supper LOL

          1. Ours has to be on the lookout for other animals. We heard coyotes last night. We watch out for her but she doesn’t like it inside. She will come in for maybe 10 minutes then yowl to get out. Like we are trapping her lol.

  2. It seems only yesterday that he had a birthday. He is a handsome lad and I know he is a member of your family, no doubt. Hope his blues are not too bad. I feel the same way on theses days as well.

    1. Thank you, Linda! He’s halfway under some table now 😊. It’s getting close to start raining, and I almost feel the same way too. It got very dark in here all of a sudden.

Don’t know what we’d do without Google, it always has the answer we want within seconds!

    1. Hi Barb, and thanks 😊. Isn’t it amazing how we get information in a second, about the most unexpected topics! I think of it so often … especially how we had to run down to the archives in the basement of the hospital for some files. Quite often in a hurry too …

    1. He knew about those shrimp, being thawed, so he was all around my feet most of the day 🙂 Things are back to normal now. One has to be careful — it so easliy becomes a habit, or ‘new routine’ LOL

    1. His days are a long row of routines. Everything has to happen in a certain order. He doesn’t go to bed [or whatever he does at night], until we’re BOTH in the bedroom. If G. stays up later … that’s not good. We sometimes think he has a bit of sheepdog in him ROFL … he has to herd us into bed 🙂

  6. It is funny (odd) how cats can live in Shelters & not be in any real routine & then once adopted they establish their routine within the new home. Siddhartha henry had no real routine most of his life & since he came to live with me, he has made sure there is a ‘proper’ routine. I laughed at McDuff ‘herding’ you & G. to bed. Remember Mingflower used to do that? It was so cute. Nylablue was more flexible. Siddhartha Henry likes to watch ‘The Aquarium Channel’ between 10-11 pm now & when I turn TV off he goes to bed in the ‘inside’ Condo…..I can read with a nite lite & he does not mind. Trouble is 6 A.M. he is on my head looking for breakfast……hahahahaha……

    1. Yes, it’s funny … and I think it works the other way around too. If they were to be let outside, all the routines would be gone. An acquaintance of mine here, turns on the aquarium channel on the iPad and her cats watch that. McDuff doesn’t seem to catch on …

  7. I agree Rebby! I think the routines would be ‘Gone With The Wind’….hahahaha….
I never had this channel B4 so I have no idea if either Nylablue or Mingflower would have watched it. I am glad Dhartha Henry likes it as it clams him down. And he adores “Downton Abbey”….go figure! 😉

  8. There are 3 channels in the package here: Fireplace, Aquarium & Sunset Channels.
I find Sunset as exciting as watching paint dry! Fireplace is nice on a cold night.
Aquarium is the best & I enjoy it too….

    1. I don’t think I’ve seen Sunset, but I’ll check for it now that you mentioned it. One time, when it was for once a little chilly in here, in the apartment, G. said: ‘turn on the fireplace channel so we get some heat in the house’ ROFL

  9. Sunset is Channel 206 on this Digital box here. Funny thing: When I go into my neighbor’s apartment during Winter & she has Fireplace Channel on I DO feel warm? Isn’t that odd? So I understand why G. suggested turning that channel on, rofl…. 😉
