free wifi

854241013_328d370135_oBack in 2007, we went on a road trip to a place in Quebec: Lac-Saint-Jean. We had a very small camera, and … more importantly; for the first time a laptop computer! This was the first time we could stay in a motel and be connected via wifi!

All our earlier road trips had been offline, more or less, for the simple reason we didn’t have a laptop. I do remember seeing all those motels advertising Β«free wifiΒ», but what good did that do us, when our computer stood at home as a big tower. There were Cottage Street, Bar HarborInternet CafΓ©s, I remember the one in Bar Harbor, ME in particular … they charged per 15 minutes and it was pretty steep.

Tomorrow I’ll be going on a little trip of my own. I’ll put my MacBook in my purse and if I’d, for some unknown reason, would feel the urge to connect it, anywhere along the way, I can do so with the hotspot on my iPhone. This is just eight years later and things, in the field of electronics, change with the speed of lightning.

Updates will follow 😻

        1. Oh, the photo of the tent… It looks a lot like the ones that we used at Guide Camp. Camp Adelaide is near Haliburton, Ontario.

  3. Hope you are having fun! I have not had a lot of wifi and I have never taken the time to see how to do the hotspot. Is it extra fees and do you use data roaming? We have been charged so hefty fees for data roaming.

      1. After (mostly/ sort of/ attempting to): following this conversation about writing in WordPress vs email, I’ve got a question. Or two… ; )
A friend of mine has recently transferred her business website to WordPress and is having a really hard time. I’ve been on the fence about what direction to take on this whole website vs blog; WordPress vs Weebly; which host(?) is best (safest/ dependable/ reasonably priced) for obtaining/ retaining a domain name…
Wasn’t sure about SO MANY things. Surely I’m not the only one to be drowning in unknown details?
If you answer, it doesn’t have to be here on the blog. Perhaps I should just email you directly instead? Thanks Bekah, (for any answer at all: )
