after a good sized can of tuna

mcduff_sleepHe looked like this! Mind you, he didn’t have the whole can in one fell swoop … it lasted all day! He hardly ate any dry stuff at all, which I tend to think is a good thing?!

Anyway, today we’ll be back to the ordinary regimen, and we’d better get moving … all this Twitter and Google+ can be extremely time consuming! You think «Just five minutes more!» and then half an hour has gone by 🙂

  1. That is one ‘cattented’ tuna-tuna-ed cat there Rebby…..
    McDuff is adorable!
‘Purrince’ Siddhartha has not had tuna-tuna yet. The Vet does not want him to develop a taste for fish… 😦

    1. Guess the vet is right. It’s we humans who have made them like fish. It wasn’t in their genes originally … I read somewhere long time ago.

  2. Very true Rebby. Have you ever seen a cat go fishing?? LOL….
I am only giving Siddhartha Kitten Fancy Feast Ocean Whitefish. He loves it & it does not stink like the Seafood Pate….I might try him on flaked tuna…when he is a bit older.

    1. Yes, like that stupidity of mixing in veggies! Have you ever seen a cat chasing after a carrot?!

McDuff loves that Ocean whitefish too. He likes shredded stuff … not paté.

  3. ROFWL!!!!! I here you about adding fruits & veggies to the meat…Cats are CARNIVORES NOT Herbivores. Mind you some cats DO like peas or beans & Siddhartha likes nibblin a bit of banana…but that is the exception; not the norm.
LOL McDuff an Nylablue preferred shredded with gravy…..
Siddhartha seems to like pate better & it does not upset his tummy/bowels.
I was thinking of getting the Fancy feast ‘flaked’ tuna & seeing what he thinks….

    1. Murphy used to like lettuce, but only when he was a wee kitten … kind of childish, I guess 🙂

The big can of tuna, that McDuff got, the other day, was flaked tuna, but not cat food, the real thing! He loves it, but even more that stuff in those pouches from MapleLeaf

  4. Murphy like lettuce?? Weird…i guess it was just a kitten thing.
Siddhartha likes a bit of yogurt daily…at least that is good for him (I eat IOGO Probiotic).
MMMM real canned tuna…I used to get Nylablue the Cloverleaf Low Sodium tuna…..I will get some next week for myself. IF a certain boy asks for a bit I will give it to him. I just don’t want to create a ‘tuna-tuna’ monster. hehehehe

    1. They say that cottage cheese is good for them too, but I’ve never managed to make any of mine eat it!

I eat Danone … the green ones, without fruit taste.

I wanted to ask you; will his eye always look that way or will it heal somehow?

  5. Nylablue liked a bot of cottage cheese. Have not bought any since Siddhartha came to me. he likes Boursin cheese & Cheeze Whiz & cheddar and Yogurt….
I can see a cat eating plain yogurt…flavored blows my mind but ‘Thee Purrince’ loves them all 🙂
His eye is a bit clearer today. The hope is as he ages the cartilage will sort of shred & break away as it heals. There will be some improvement but it is unknown whether it will totally heal. As long as the eye is healthy & he can see out of it I am happy 🙂 The new eyedrops have a steroid in them which will promote healing.
On Tye his Brother you can barely tell it was his right eye that was affected.

    1. This reminds me that Hadassah used to enjoy a little sour cream every now and then!

When both the brothers got this … was it a virus or what?

As long as he’s healthy and happy …<3

  6. It sure is funny what they like isn’t it Rebby?
At a month old Siddhartha; brother Tye & sister Tangerine plus a handful of the other barn cats got VIRAL RHINOTRACHEITIS…it secimates feral cat colonies & barn cat populations if not caught in time. Along with the Upper Respiratory component is the PINK EYE which can blind a cat or kill it……
Tye & Tangerine have almost full vision restored & are doing well. Unless you know what to look for their eyes look the same. (I can tell Tye’s right eye was the affected one).
Siddhartha was the sickest of the the trio & almost died. He did lose some sight in left eye but manages well. The new eyedrops have already helped & I can see a bit of his pupil now!
The 2 meds will help loosen the cartilage & it will sort of ‘shred’ like string cheese & hopefully clear away for good. it is a process & we shall see how it goes.
Any restoration is better than none 😉

    1. Okay, I understand now. And yes, any restoration is better than nothing. I think I can see improvement already, even in the pictures! Little darlin’ … I’m so glad he got a good home now.

  7. I have seen this Rhino Virus wipe out entire colonies of barn cats….it is an awful way for them to die…when I think of how Siddhartha & his fursiblings suffered it really upsets me.
My bestie (now in Newfoundland) says she CAN see improvement in new pix of Siddhartha!!! AS the eye drops cost $100. per bottle they had better bl**dy work. (No I did not have to pay for them….)
He IS a little darling…..mischievious & slightly naughty & very, very, very clever!
    He even plays fetch now!
    🙂

    1. Good! I did see a difference! McDuff used to play fetch too, when he was little! I kept tossing one of those little, fuzzy balls [that I saw recently in one of your pictures] down the stairs, he ran down, picked it up and brought it back to me … time after time! 🙂

  8. It is a good thing the eyedrops are working as it looks like Siddhartha & I will not be returning to the Vet practice. Long story….I am very upset tonite. 20 yrs I have known this Vet & for it to come to this is devastating.
LOL about McDuff with the fuzzy ball….Siddhartha loves playing fetch!!! 😉
I can’t find the fuzzy ball tonite…Siddhartha has hidden it again, rofwl….what a clown in fur…

    1. That’s terrible!!! Tell me about it, when you feel that you’re up to it! So sad…

Oh boy, do I remember how I had to search for that fuzzy ball all the time!!! LOL

  9. Just sent you the 3 pertinent emails between the Vet & myself. I have NOT had a reply from himm so do not even know if we have the Feb 18th appt. Mind you I can’t afford to pay $61. for a recheck either.
LOL to chasing fuzzy balls…. ;0

    1. OMG. I’ve read them now. What a thing! But I think he’ll chose to forgive and forget. Vets are the kindest people I know of…

      Like

  10. I tend to agree the Vet will forgive me as I have already forgiven him.
That just leaves the problem of how I will afford him since his business partners want him to charge full price & I can not afford that. This means Siddhartha henry does not have access to affordable care. So NOT ALL Vets’ are nice….some are in it for the $$ money $$
    I am so tired….

    1. Yes, they’re running a business and the others are on his back. It’s very unfortunate. There should be some type of pro bono as the lawyers do …

      Like

  11. Waht irks me is that Dave built the business from the ground up. He took in the partners & they each have their own fiedls of expertise. Unfortunately the 3 other Vets’ are the ‘business’ oriented ones. Dave has always done his own ‘pro bono’ for many of us on Disability here. Now he is being ‘bullied’ by the other 3…
3 against 1 is lousy odds. So now people like me will have to either a) leave the practice or b) only go if the pet is dying….
I am sick with worry. This is not the way things should be. At ALL!!!!

    Like

    1. No, this is not the way it should be. And it takes a long time to build up such a trust as you have with this guy!

The one I had back home, was the sweetest guy! He always saw to that he got the flu shot, as he was the only one in that little town, and he didn’t feel that he could be away sick … and I always saw to that he got it for free 🙂

  12. So I did some research & found out Dr Dave is the 2nd partner in the Vet practice. Dr Deb opened the practice first & then took Dave on. She has always let me think he is in charge…now she has pulled rank on him.
The 2 new Vet’s are out of school & want to make $$$$ & do not care about animals like Dave does.
I emailed him today & asked for clarification of the cost of the recheck appt & told him if I have to pay $61.-$71. I will be cancelling that appt & will have to clsoe my account with the Vet practice! It has come to that after 19 years.
I spoke to Siddhartha’s original ‘owner’ & she is willing to pay for me to take Siddhartha to her Vet who knows about me & also takes care of Tyrone his brother. Now that is kindness!
So we shall see what happens 😉

  13. It is truly tragic that Dr Dave has been been called up on the capret for doing the right things for many of us who are on Disability or are Seniors. He still made money for the Vet Hospital. I wish I could defend him but I can not.
have not heard back from him tonite. I fear he is going to just not reply…..if he does not get back to me by Thursday I will call the new Vet & leave a message & set up appt with her.
I decided I will split the cost with Siddhartha’s original owner…that seems fair & I am prepared to spend $20.-$30. for a recheck…..
Sheila (NB’s chaffeur) said she will take me over to Dr. B’s for free (as she always has done.)
At least there is a back up plan or I’d bee more upset than I am now…..

    Like

    1. I hope he replies, at least, so you can close up that long relationship on a better note than it is now. Yes, it’s very good there’s a back-up plan, and that you’ll be able to split the costs with the other one.

I pay $20 each time he has to have his pedicure. I think it was two years ago, I got some idea in my head … mind you, it was ONLY in my head … that he had diabetes. I went there, they took a full blood status and did a general examination. That turned out $125 but it was worth it — I’d worked myself up to a frenzy and I didn’t see anything else than him drinking water. Nothing was wrong with him.

  14. As of 3 pm today (Wed.) not a peep from Dr Dave. This is ridiculous…I sent him a kind email & told him how much his care over the years has meant to me & that if he can no longer assist me I will understand.
I have done all I can; it is up to him to let me know what’s what. he has until Friday & if no word I will call Dr. B. & schedule an appointment for Siddhartha.
I am lucky there is a back up plan & that both MaryEllen & Sheila are so willing to help me.
Nail trim here costs $20. but Dave always did it for free as there was always so much else to be paid for. I think it is ridiculous charging anything over $10. for nail trimming.
Oh my that must have been a rough time for you worrying about McDuff. I am so glad th ttests were negative! Best $125. spent, lol…

    1. This is such a sad story, and I really hope he will reply so that it can end on a good note. Perhaps he’s not the forgiving kind … he sounded pretty pissed off in the email?!

Yes, those $125 were well spent … for peace of mind! 🙂 Where I sit, here at the computer, I can see his water bowl. It was unusually hot in the apartment, and the air was dry at the time. I didn’t think of that, the only thing I saw was he drinking water. I got totally stuck on the thought, and I couldn’t have dealt with giving him injections.

  15. 8 pm Wed nite & STILL NO reply from Dr Dave. This is NOT in character with him at all….
He did sound pissed off in his email to me. I can see why he was that angry but I did NOT KNOW all the discounts he had given me nor did I know the price of the Tobradex eyedrops. I have always appreciated him so none of this makes sense to me. I am giving him until Friday morning & then I am done. I can not continue to go thru this & it is not fair to ‘Purrince’ Siddhartha…he can feel my stress. He does not deserve that!
I can understand why you were fixated on the water drinking. It was good to check it out. I KNEW in October Nylablue was developing Diabetes. The Cartrophen balanced the Depomedrol & things levelled out but in November that did not happen. Giving a cat an injection is easy if you know how to do it & if the cat is compliant & there is a 2nd pair of hands….lol….I could not give shots; I’d be a wreck!
Dr Dave had no trouble nor did Auntie Anne but I could not afford to pay $11.-$22. A DAY for Insulin & Nylablue was so worn out….. ;0

    Like

    1. Well, there is still time. I hope he’ll write.
McDuff would NOT be compliant. At. All. In that case I’d cut his claws myself.
I hear you, about her being worn out. It was her time to go … may she rest in peace.

  16. Me too Rebby….if he does not & we part w/out making peace it will be awful. I have known him for 20+ yrs even b4 I had moved back here. He has played a BIG part in my life. ..I do not want to email again because I fear it will only annoy him more. I think he feels so under appreciated with the business partners & then me questioning him about what he was wanting to do & he needs his hip replaced so in serious pain…..maybe it all is too much for him.
LOL about McDuff. Nylablue was very compliant for the Insulin shots; that was the other way I knew she was done. There was no ‘fight’ left in her.
It was her time to go & as much as I miss her I know I did the right thing for HER!!! Unselfish Love is being able to let them go….

    1. I’ve just watched a CNN Special, with Wolf Blitzer … speaking with survivors of Auschwitz. One hour. I’m exhausted, it was very powerful and moving.

    1. Yes. I would have been too. I’m glad CNN aired this. It was Wolf’s first time there. He lost a lot of family there.

I’ve only met two people who’d been there.

Do you have CNN in the basic package?

  17. No CNN anymore with Basic. Sorry.
I wonder if Wolf was of Jewish heritage…I bet he was very shaken up.
I’ve met a handful of Survivors including my Father.

    2. Oh, and yeah … they talked about that too … this was the 70th anniversary of the liberation, and for the 75th there won’t be many survivors left..
